SEBRATHA, GHADAMES AND THE GREAT SAHARA


The Roman archeology of Sebratha, the per-historic sites of the Sahara and the oasis of the Libyan Desert

Day 1
Meeting the tour guide at arrival to Tripoli airport or Djerba airport, driving to the town of Sebratha, it’s one of the most classical Roman cities of the ancient Tripolitania. Visiting its theater, this is considered to be as one of the best preserved Roman Theater in the world, founded by Phoenician in the second millennium BC. Meanwhile a visit to Sabratha museum, which illustrates the Roman heritage through a big fine collection of mosaics, overnight at a 3 star hotel in Tripoli.
Day 2
Off to Ghadames via Qasar Elhaj and Naluot visiting the Qasar Elhaj Palace and Nalout old town, dinner and overnight in the hotel at Ghadames.
Day 3
Sightseeing round the unique and enchanting oasis of Ghadames, this is on the edge of the Sahara desert. Visit the old town with its labyrinthine passages and take lunch in a richly decorated traditional house. Late afternoon excursion to watch the sunset over the sand dunes; on the way, we visit the ruins of Qasar al-Ghoul (Castle of the Ghost), allegedly the remains of an old Roman fort, where the local inhabitants succumbed to a siege during the Arab conquest of Libya in the 7th century AD.
Day 4
A full day drive south east towards Sabha crossing the golden sand, seeing and experiencing the natural characteristics of the real desert through several stops.
Day 5
We depart to the main sites for the Germant Empire (Germa) visiting the museum and the remains on the ancient Germant warrior civilization and continuing to Adad via Al-ewaynat. Dinner and overnight at a camping place in the wild at Adad.
Day 6
Discover the pre-historic cave paintings and engravings and the beautiful natural sites of Akakus Region, a dinner and overnight on the sand dunes (Tents) at Wan Kaza.
Day 7
Continuing to explore the great sand dunes of Dhan Murzu, having dinner and overnight there (Tents).
Day 8
Explore Wadi Mathendoush with its ancient Petroglyphs. After a drive among the sand dunes and exit to an asphaltic road to the main point for exploring the Sahara lakes, Tkerkiba stop for refreshment at the camp site of Tkerkiba. Arriving at Ubari sand sea a chance to explore the great dunes and drive through the huge sand dunes towards the magnificent Sahara lakes. Having dinner and overnight on the sand dunes (Tents).
Day 9
Visiting Mafu and Gaberoun lakes, having dinner and overnight on the sand dunes, near the lakes (Tents).
Day 10
Driving to Temissa and stopping by the town of Murzuq visiting its ancient castle and Souk. The driving continues to the small town of Temissa, having dinner and overnight on the sand dunes (Tents).
Day 11
Leaving the town of Temissa and heading south to the volcanic lakes of Waw Namus, having dinner and overnight in the wild at a camping site over there.
Day 12
After visiting the volcanic lakes we drive back to Temissa, having dinner and overnight on the sand dunes (Tents).
Day 13
Driving to Sabha city for a flight back to Tripoli, having dinner and overnight there at the Bab Elbahar Hotel.
Day 14
Full day excursion to Leptis Magna, 2000 years old Roman city, it is the one of the largest and best preserved Roman cities in the world. It has the biggest baths in the Roman world and it is the most completed Roman town in the world. Having dinner and overnight at the hotel at Tripoli.
Day 15
The end of the tour you will be transferred to the airport for departure.
